About

97.1KEGL "The Eagle" was a hard rock radio station for Dallas and the surrounding areas. They tended to play heavier styles of rock: Drowning Pool, Metallica, etc. The frequently had smaller local acts in rotation: FFTN, SouthFM, and The Vanished could all be heard at random times of the day. The Eagle did a relatively good job supporting local music. Robert Miguel hosted The Local Show every Sunday at Trees, and Cindy Skull would frequently promote up coming shows on the drive home.

Unfortunately for Dallas and its sizable population of rock-lovers, The Eagle was a Clear Channel Communications station. The corporate masters decided to pull the plug on the Eagle in May of 2004 because of low ratings, switching the station's format to easy listening and rebranding the station as "Sunny 97.1". Easy listening fans already had stations (KVIL and KLUV), so Sunny 97.1 had a sunset in 2005, and the station because a Spanish-language station.
