From the About Us page on TexasGigs.com:TexasGigs.com was founded several years ago by Cindy Chaffin as a means of promoting and supporting the Dallas-area music scene. Cindy pioneered local music webcasting and podcasting and has won best blog awards from the Dallas Observer for three consecutive years.
The site is intended to be a resource for local music fans and musicians of all flavors and sizes. Our mission is NOT primarily to be critics - we will leave much of that up to our users. Rather, we simply want to provide people with the information they need to leave their homes and attend more local music shows. Hopefully, in the process we will cultivate a vibrant, active community of artists and fans.
Our mission is to cover local music in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with an emphasis on live music. All musical genres are fair game. We will cover national touring acts as they pass through town and provide show information; however, since there are hundreds of sites providing comprehensive coverage of U2, the Rolling Stones, Coldplay, etc., we prefer to focus our site on all the local bands and artists who can truly benefit from media attention. We define local broadly, and you'll find some coverage of regional artists on the site.
