Biography

From their website:
Today, everything is labeled and put into categories. From movies (comedy, drama, action, etc) to music (rock, hip-hop, metal, funk, Etc) to people (jocks, nerds, stoners, mullet-heads, etc). With the creativity of four local Dallas boys, Brian Marks on guitar, Shaun Kelley on drums, Tim Canaday with vocals, and Tony Morel on bass, Smooth Choppy has evolved a new category of music... their own. A category filled with action, drama, and comedy. A sound that produces rock, hip-hop, funk, and metal, but most importantly can get people from all walks of life bouncing together in the same room.

The Smooth Choppy vibe was created in the spring of 1999, when Tony and Tim started playing acoustic shows in Nacadogches, Texas. That summer they formed a four-piece band that performed under the name FizzGiG. By 2000 FizzGiG had hit the Dallas scene playing at all the main clubs in Dallas such as The Curtain Club, Trees, and Gypsy Tea Room. Along the way having the pleasure to perform with some of Dallas's greatest local bands like Bowling For Soup, Spoonfed Tribe, FFTN, Tek 3, Dot Matrix, F.D.A.P., and Danas Fast.

In the spring of 2002, Tim and Tony split off in search for a solid, musically dedicated band. Soon thereafter they met Brian and Shaun. Brian, a veteran of the stage, brought his experience, wisdom, and unique guitar riffs to the table. Shaun then applied a funky, meticulous rhythm and the boys started down the road that dreams are made of. Within a month the new band members molded perfectly together to form a unique sound, vibe, and image, which is known as Smooth Choppy.

Smooth Choppy provides a creativity recipe within the music containing influences from 311, Incubus, Busta Rhymes, U2, Sublime, The Beastie Boys, and Linkin Park. Smooth Choppy has a unique set filled with energy, passion, and a crazy mix of musical styles. Each member has their own detailed riffs and styles which are displayed throughout their songs. When you go to the music store, you won't find them in the rock or hip-hop section. Just look for the sign standing all alone that says Smooth Choppy.
