Simplicity
By: Dave Balentinesimplicity (sem-plis-i-te) noun
plural simplicities
Don't you love how simple life is? Isn't it wonderful how everything can be taken at face value because people are infallibly honest. They simply say what they mean and don't have to worry about people trying to find some hidden meaning in their words. Don't you love how official papers and documents are written simply to get the point across, without having to worry about every little definition because people will understand the concepts of it and not try to explain it away to get out of things or find a loop-hole? Isn't it refreshing to know that when you see someone smiling, they really mean it, because if they were sad or upset and anything else they would simply act like it? I love being able to simply say what I mean and know that people will appreciate and expect honesty, knowing of course how damaging lies can be. Don't you just love how simple life is?
"Well she's walking through the clouds, with a circus mind that's running round, butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and fairy tales, that's all she thinks about, riding with the wind. When I'm sad she comes to me with a thousand smiles she gives to me free. It's all right, it's all right she said, take anything you want from me, anything. Fly on little wing."
-Jimi Hendrix, "Little Wing"
Did you laugh when you read that? Did you see the sarcasm without even having to finish the first sentence? Maybe something about seeing the word "simple" inspires a sense of fruitless hope, or maybe a better word would be hopelessness. Why is it we can never accept the phrase "because" or "that's the way it is" as an answer to anything? Quite simply, I'd be willing to bet there's not a single person anywhere that would not laugh or at least be smiling knowingly by the end of the first sentence.
I think Jimi had the right idea. can you imagine someone saying that in all honesty without any hidden thought, "it's all right, take anything you want from me"? No fear or suspicion, just simplicity. Well if that's the way even a single person can view life, then I say to them "fly on little wing."
