Forgive This

By: Pat Adams

Forgiving is a quality I do not understand. Bygones are not bygones, and transgressions still occurred no matter how profusely someone apologizes. This sympathy people feel for each other makes me sick. Why grant forgiveness to someone to clear their conscience of guilt after they have wronged you? They weren't sorry about it while they were doing it, so what makes you think they are genuinely sorry now? If you forgive them and show you have a weak will now, what's to stop them from doing it again later, and expecting to be forgiven? Nothing. Being a forgiving person hurts you. Sympathy makes you weak. Uncompromising people are easy to respect, but hard to get along with. People do not mess with cold-hearted individuals, nor do they mess with unforgiving souls. God forgives, he judges whether a sin is forgivable, whether the sinner is truly repentant. That is not for you to judge. Unless you're psychic, you cannot know what that person is truly feeling, and thus do not know if they are lying. Lying is easy, feeling regret is not.
