Biography
From their website:Copperwound was founded in august of 2005 - but founded isn't really even the right word. Blake and Brian had been playing together for about twelve years, sitting out by the pool on friday nights making music with their acoustic guitars, and occasionally standing in with other bands. But they'd never played a gig together, showcasing their own music (which was very sparse), and they'd never called themselves a band. It was in August that they brought Chris along to a few friday-night driveway jams, and the three of them decided they should at least call themselves something.
Copperwound (pronounced 'wound' like 'sound') came to Brian when he was trying to find a word that described his music. When played in its original acoustic form, the sound of the strings themselves is what gives it the spirit he is so fond of. So Copperwound it was. But they still had no real agenda. Blake and Brian were writing a lot more though, and within a few weeks had several new songs between the two of them. Perhaps this was the fire they'd been waiting for beneath their feet. When Blake's other band broke up, he and brian combined the two efforts, effectively doubling their repertoire instantly - and Copperwound played the first gig that had originally been scheduled for Blake's other band.
That first gig was a major success, and the next day they were asked to return to play at that club. Over the next two months, Copperwound would play there again three more times, and two other venues as well. There was so much apparent demand for their music that they scarcely had time to rehearse. They finally got a break after the end of January and locked themselves away, vowing to regroup, reground, and put down a bunch of new material. With each of the members of the band being creative contributors to the sound, they had several new songs they'd never gotten to show each other yet.
The band took off all of February and most of march before returning to the rehearsal studio. Copperwound's studio album is still in the making, due to be released sometime this summer. With the sudden and almost overwhelming gig schedule they were initially handed, they've asked us to be (and thanked us for being) patient as we wait for their next gigs. Here they come.
