About

This Texas trio produces an eclectic mix of rocking electric riffs offset by gentle acoustics, tight harmony, driving bass lines and lyrics that speak to the highs and lows of real life friendships, break-ups, loves and heartbreaks. The three original, and current, members of the band include Tristan Bugenis (Bass Guitar and Lead Vocals), Aaron Boelter (Electric Guitar and backup vocals), and Matthew Hackney (Drums, percussion and Lead Vocals).

Roots

Like marriage, the best bands start as friendships. For these guys, it began on the ball field. Tristan and Matt met in the summer of 2001 in Little League baseball. Matt was an old-timer on the team and Tristan had signed up for fun. Matt said he had heard they were getting some kind of hot shot and he was prepared to hate him but instead Tristan won him over.

In their freshman year of high school, they formed a band, Stealing Third that lasted about a year. One day Matt told Tristan about this guy he met who was interested in hooking up with them. Aaron came over to play and the guys gelled. They took the name Silent Pulse.

Practices were all-nighters at Tristan's house - mostly 'cause his dad is a musician and had the room set up. It was great times blending band practice with PS2, whiffle ball, touch (yeah, right) football, and street basketball. (When the little neighborhood kids started knocking on the door to ask them to come out and play, you had to wonder which activity got the most attention!)

This background indirectly formed the dichotomy of the band - practice until 10 pm (9 on weekdays) was all electric but after curfew, the acoustic instruments came out. Aaron and Tristan would sit around strumming instruments and Matt joined in with harmonies.

As the guys grew in their musical abilities and began to better define their individual sound, they decided to go back to the beginning and recognize the place where it all began. In the late fall of 2005, Beryl Court debuted.

The Creative Process

The band writes their own songs as well as putting their own spin on popular tunes when covering Third Eye Blind, The Foo Fighters, Oasis, Vertical Horizon, The Fags, and many other alternative bands.

Original tunes evolve as these three pool their talents and interests to produce one great sound. The harder songs produced by the band usually start with Aaron who slams guitar licks to kick out driving tunes. Tristan guides the gentler sounds writing strictly from an acoustic guitar. Matt pulls these two together penning many of the lyrics and creating the harmony that gives Beryl Court their distinctive sound.

Where We're At

Besides writing, performing and singing their own music, all three members of Beryl Court enjoy watching and playing baseball, spending time together, and having a great time with friends.

All the guys are in college with Matt and Aaron at Texas Tech University in Lubbock while Tristan is at Midland College about an hour and half away. This currently limits their face time together to holiday breaks and summers but web cams, IMs and texting means almost daily contact between the group. When they are all in the same place, it is back to Beryl Court, the street address, to practice, write and polish new tunes, and grabbing the neighborhood kids for a game of street baseball.
