Alan
Biography
From their website:During the beginning of the new century, Alan began demonstrating their brand of sincere music to the world. "It was all meant to happen," believes singer/guitarist Chris Hardee, "everything fell into place like it had already been planned out for us."
Comprised of four highly talented musicians with a variety of musical tastes, Alan’s focus lies in reshaping normal musical standards in an attempt to breathe new life into one of the oldest art forms. All members of Alan contribute their own types of individual vision, balancing equally and creating the sense of a true band.
Under the spotlight, Chris illuminates the stage with a passionate presence that captures many audiences. Jeff Lowe, formerly of the band Flickerstick, has been perfecting the drums for over ten years. David Young provides a creative, classically-trained foundation that far exceeds conventional bass playing. Pianist and Violinist, Doug Polhamus, recently graduated with a degree in music composition from the University of North Texas.
Alan has contributed songs to soundtracks and helped score a handful of independent films aside from regularly performing live. Also in rotation on college radio, the band played by request at the KWBU 107.1 Freedom Concert in Waco, Texas. Alan can be heard regularly on KNTU 88.1 'Frequency Down' and KTCU 88.7 'The Choice.'
Current publications include the College Music Journal (CMJ), Midwest Music Directory (MMD), and local editions such as the Fort Worth Weekly, Dallas Observer, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Denton Record-Chronicle, and Harder Beat Magazine. The band earned a spot on Harder Beat’s nationally distributed Jamfest 2000 compilation CD through a series of competitive showcases. Dallasmusic.com nominated Alan as ‘Pop band of the Year’ for their 2001 awards show. Alan won 2nd place twice in a row for their performances in Dallas' CCC Music Fray 2002 and 2003 contests. Most recently, the FW Weekly 2003 and 2004 Music Awards nominated Chris as 'Best Male Vocalist.'
Alan's E.P., How Involved, may be purchased through most independent D/FW metroplex record stores or at any live performance. A new three-song demo is obtainable at live performances or online at www.alanband.com. Alan is in the process of recording their forthcoming full-length album, The Universal Answer is Both.
